Late October hunting trip by Mike 10/31/2018
The location was perfect for exploring the various BLM lands in the area to hunt for Mule Deer. The lodging company (Canyonlands) and the owner were both helpful in directing us to promising spots. The lodge had all of the items we needed.Would definitely stay at this place in the future.
A very lovely vacation lodge! by Olivia 10/30/2018
The lodge a Solid Ground was described a "Unique and Stunning" and we could not agree more! From its wonderful rural farm setting to the creative layout and decor, it was one of our favorite vacation stays. Perfectly located, it is an easy drive to many of the national parks located in the Four Corners area. The owner (and builder) Justin, made us feel very welcomed and offered lots of helpful tips and information about the area. We would highly recommend this lodge if you are looking for a place to stay in the Monticello area that is not the usual "cookie cutter" cabin
A truly unique place to stay! by Jodie 10/30/2018
A great place to use as a hub for exploring arches, canyonlands, & monument valley . Place had the most comprehensive welcome packet and ideas for hikes that I have ever seen !
A very special place by Jason 08/30/2018
This place is very unique. This house was built with a lot of creativity and was a great find for our stay in Utah. We went to Arches National Park, about a hour away and Mesa Verde which was about a hour away also. Monticello is a small county town and this place is very secluded.

There are some other small cabins on the property but are not obtrusive to your privacy. I met Justin the owner and he was great and you can tell he put a lot of hard work into the place. They live in one of the other cabins on the property. The pictures at the time if not updated by now don't show the other bedrooms very well. There is the master with two queen beds and another bedroom on the first first floor with a full size bed in it. Upstairs in the loft there is two full size beds and there is another bedroom off the back upstairs with a full size bed in it also.

We were very happy with the vacation rental and would stay there again. FYI, there is no washer and dryer available for use. I would recommend this place to anyone who has a sense of adventure and appreciates using what you have for material. Justin turned this house into something very special that he can be proud of. Everyone who sees it will say WOW I wish I could do something like this!

An amazing place! by Daniel 08/30/2018
Solid Ground is an amazing, rustic place to go home to after visiting any of the major outdoor attractions within an hour’s drive. We spent the weekend with a few of our closest friends exploring Mesa Verde, Canyonlands and Arches along with some of the 4x4 recreation areas. Coming back to Solid Ground was a great treat. Would happily stay here again.

Couple quick things to note for other visitors: 1. There is a perfectly acceptable grocery store in the middle of town, but it is not open on Sundays. Luckily, we went to Colorado on Sunday so we didn’t have an issue, however it is good information to have while planning. 2. The floor plan is pretty open with not many doors for privacy. Would recommend for close friends and family. Be aware this is a rustic lodge with amazing amenities and not a multi-million dollar home in Jackson Hole/Park City. 3. Communication from the owners (live on site) and Jerry was impeccable. Although we were a little surprised that the owners live so close to the house, they were very friendly and very respectful of our privacy. 4. The AC is only on the upper loft, however there is nothing to be scared of. The house stays cool with the thick curtains drawn, even in August. 5. The master suite is amazing especially for a property well outside of the main towns/cities. The masonry and detail of the master bathroom is beautiful. Watch your step though! It can get a little slick getting out of the 3-shower head shower! Amazing after a long day of hiking.
Magnificent views! by Anne 07/10/2018
The house at Solid Ground is unique and in a very special setting. The view out the front door is of a magnificent, calm, spacious horizon. Beautiful sunsets. The house too is spacious and very comfortable. Great bathroom and shower space in the master bedroom. The kitchen is well equipped. Justin, the owner, was helpful and generous. Lots of good information for exploring this magical region which enchanted us in part because it is far less touristic than other corners of Utah. But it is also a region full of amazing contrasts and discoveries. We loved our stay and highly recommend it.

Very unique place to stay

This is a beautiful house in the middle of a pretty small town and remote area of Utah. There is a family living in a house down the road who I believe are the owners who were very kind and helpful. I would say this would be a great base for exploring nearby Utah especially for a big family. So in terms of the pros and cons:

Pros: Especially during the day, this house is beautiful. There’s a very modern kitchen and lovely bathrooms that have been recently renovated. The kitchen is fully stocked with a crock pot, dishes, coffee machine, hot chocolate, and coffee. The beds were very comfortable as well and the natural lighting is gorgeous. There’s a nice picnic table outside and hammock and fire pit. I really really loved the kitchen. It had a beautiful island and was a nice place to congregate.

The cons: It seemed the house had not had visitors for several weeks before we arrived and there is some nearby construction underway. As a result, the house was dustier than I would have expected (not terrible just noticeable) with some spider webs that I would not have expected around the main bedroom. This wasn’t a huge problem but again, it wasn’t something I would have anticipated.

Overall, this was a beautiful house in a cool location. It was different than anywhere I’ve ever visited before. There was a mountain lion- claws, head, and all hanging down over the bed. This isn’t a hotel and its much different than where I come from but it was a unique travel and cultural opportunity I’m glad I was able to experience.

Otherwise it was a lovely place to stay. Close enough to nearby Monicello that you can go into town for meals then drive out again. Beautiful dark skies at night as well!

Exceeded our expectations by Bruce 06/20/2018
The Lodge at Solid Ground exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed our stay there. I would not hesitate to stay there again.
A really fantastic space!! by Darren 05/24/2018
A really fantastic space for exploring Bears Ears or other local areas for a family or group. Beautiful, clean, incredible bathroom, well-stocked kitchen, great views. Really nice and helpful hosts. We had a group of students and they loved it.
Unique and eclectic by Matthew 05/10/2018
Unique - eclectic - comfortable. bottom-line: would stay there again.
Something Unique on Every Wall by Rich Cox 10/25/2017
This solid ground cabin has an extremely unique and fun theme. The old rustic custom look with all of the modern amenities. The time and effort put into this beautiful home is easy to see and appreciate. The floor plan is large and open, the kitchen and dining room are great gathering areas. The master suite is immaculate and amazing. The location is great just 8 miles outside of Monticello, so close enough to run get a snack in town yet far enough away you feel completely secluded. We took our 5 kids and the younger 3 loved the loft. The dual sinks in both bathrooms were great for morning get ready time. We spent a couple days in the southern portion of Canyonlands and this cabin was the perfect base camp for our trip.
What a pleasent retreat! by St. Clair's 07/11/2017
These brothers & two daughters here for a long over-due family reunion. It was the perfect base-camp for our day trips and a quiet, peaceful rest to come home to after a long day of trekking & visiting. Enjoyed al the wildlife & the gardens & chicken pen to complete the homestead experience. The home was well equipped & the owners very responsive. Thanks for making our stay an enjoyable one.
This is by far the most comfortable & unique vacation rental we have ever rented. by Tammy 07/05/2017
This is by far the most comfortable & unique vacation rental we have ever rented. From the absolutely stunning and gorgeous bathrooms to the creative architecture. We loved our days here at Solid Ground and will definitely return. The beds were comfortable, the house was clean, the views were gorgeous.
One of our favorites of the house was all the unique decorations: saws on the mirror door, horseshoe hot pad and kitchen towel holder, unique pan farm equipment ceiling holder, barn doors, antlers… It is clear the owners have built this home with much love and care.
What a sincere privilege to spend an evening at Solid Ground. by James 06/27/2017
Tonight, friends and family from Connecticut and Arizona came together to enjoy Utah’s beautiful parks. We are so grateful for the opportunity to spend an evening in an incredible home. We all remarked that it’s like staying in a conversation piece. The vision and character of this place exudes out of every corner. Every turn brings and “Oh” or “Ah”. We can only hope to visit again. We wish we stayed here first. Thank you for the hospitality. Good luck and God speed in all you do.
An unforgettable getaway! by A and L Hunt 06/23/2017
We had a wonderful stay at Solid Ground! I can only describe this unusual home as "rustic splendor" which seems a contradiction, but you pull it off beautifully. There is a surprise (creative, personal, and whimsical) at every turn! We loved the peace and quiet, the views of the wheat fields, the barn wood accents and the sense of space. Thank you for a comfortable and unforgettable getaway!
